Indulge your senses and experience the timeless beauty of classical art. Hidden away in the Great Southern in Albany, Ron Baker and Marjan Bakhtiarikish have established a purpose-built studio and gallery to showcase their unique, classically inspired art.
Worldwide there is a renewal of interest in the enduring achievements of the Renaissance and classical traditions of drawing and painting, requiring high levels of skill. In the opening decades of the 21st century there has been a resurgence of interest across the U.S., Britain, Europe and although initially slow to catch on, now in Australia, in studying the techniques and craft of traditional realism. Now Ron Baker and Marjan Bakhtiarikish are re-introducing the wondrous and timeless legacy of Western, classical art for contemporary audiences.
Marjan, of Persian origin, is now an Australian citizen. She has had an abiding love of art from an early age and this was stimulated by her family’s appreciation of Western culture, particularly classical music and opera. Marjan always practiced her drawing as a child and after studying for her MA in English Literature at university she attended art classes with renowned Iranian masters. With her university studies completed Marjan focused on her art and love of Western classical and Renaissance art. This then led her to travel to Florence, Italy to study in various academies to develop her artistic skills. This included Accademia delle belle arti di Firenze, Charles H Cecil Studios and Florence Classical Arts Academy. Marjan has a particular passion for portraiture from life and portrait commissions are a special focus of the new venture.

Ron is a long time Albany resident and similarly had an early love for drawing and painting, being an early member of the Albany Art Group in his teenage years, followed by art studies in Melbourne, where his teachers included Dale Hickey, the late Alun Leach-Jones and Peter Booth, subsequently becoming an art teacher. After many years he has reignited his love of art by travelling to Florence, where new academies have become established to rediscover and teach the almost lost techniques of the old master and classical traditions of realism. In 2014 he graduated from the Angel Academy of Art and also studied at Charles H Cecil Studios and the Florence Classical Arts Academy.
Ron and Marjan met in Florence while pursuing their mutual dreams of studying and training in the classical traditions of the Old masters. During their time in Italy, apart from their studies in classical academies they visited museums to develop their skills and love of classical art through master studies, drawing from antique busts and statues.
